Clearing the air on Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi’s demand that the NCP end its alliance with the BJP-Sena in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) before the Assembly polls or else the Congress would fight the elections alone,Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Saturday said that any decision, whether to to go it alone or make NCP a pre-poll ally, rests solely with the Congress high command.

Chavan, who was in the city to attend the concluding function of the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) rally said that their state-wide campaign that commenced on June 23 was a success and had received a good response.

Reminding party workers that the Congress had bagged 17 seats while the NCP got only eight in the Lok Sabha polls,Chavan asked party workers to rally round for a good show in the Assembly polls, too.

“Let us do it for the Assembly elections where there are 288 seats,” said Chavan. “Jinkla Rashtra,Ata Chala Jinku Maharashtra” will be our slogan for the Assembly polls,he said.
