WITH 80 per cent Aadhar linkage for Pune district, the district’s food and civil supply department has completed 40 per cent of ration card and Aadhar linkage, and have yet another 40 per cent ration card holders to be covered till December 31. After seeking several extensions, the officials have set the target for the month end.
“It is an uphill task as people are not forthcoming with the details of the Aadhar card. Even as we have been requesting them to give details, the citizens are not forthcoming, which has delayed the process,’’ said district supply officer Jyoti Kadam. The officials have reached out to the 18 lakh ration card holders in the district through the 2,800 fair price shops who are helping with the linkage.
The earlier deadline was May 31 and it was extended to December 31. The supply officials are set to weed out bogus public distribution beneficiaries and collate information of all card holders with the help of the fair price shops. “We managed 40 per cent and are trying to collect the data from the shops through regular updation of our system and by reaching out to consumers directly through the fair price shops,’’ added the officials. The state gave a green signal to redesign the public distribution system earlier this year.
