One more arrested for cab driver’s murder

Sent to police custody till July 31; 5 more accused yet to be arrested,say cops

The Shivajinagar police have arrested another suspect in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old cab driver who went missing six months ago with the four-wheeler he was driving. Police claimed to have cracked the case a fortnight ago when they arrested notorious historysheeter Devmani Sanugam (27) of Cuddalore from a jail in Tamil Nadu and brought him to Pune.

The deceased,Anil Anantrao Borkar of Shivajinagar Gaothan who worked for a city-based travel agency,was last seen on January 7,the day he had gone to Mumbai to drop a few men belonging to Tamil Nadu.

After two months,the Cuddalore district police in Tamil Nadu informed the Pune police that Borkar’s vehicle was recovered when some people were attempting to commit a robbery. But Borkar was not found.

After his arrest,Sanugam revealed that he and his accomplices had strangulated Borkar to death on January 8 and dumped his body near Shindewadi on the Pune-Satara road.

Sanugam told the police that Borkar had allegedly taken Rs 6 lakh from him and did not return and hence he killed him and fled with his car to recover the money. He has many cases,including that of murder and robbery,registered against him in Tamil Nadu.

On Saturday,police arrested Sanugam’s accomplice Naguran Rajgopal (25) from Tamil Nadu. A holiday magistrate court on Sunday remanded Rajgopal in police custody till July 31. Police said five more suspects were yet to be arrested. They have been charged for offences under Sections 201 (destroying evidence),302 (murder),364 (abduction for murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
