Om Dalvi Memorial tennis tournament begins today

The ATF Asian Under-14 Series Tennis Tournament is a part of the Asian Junior series introduced by the Asian Tennis Federation.

Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association (PMDTA) in collaboration with Om Dalvi Memorial Trust will host the Om Dalvi Memorial – ATF Asian Under-14 Series Tennis Tournament 2013 at the MSLTA School of Tennis in Balewadi from April 27 to May 4.

Tournament director Sunder Iyer and the trustee of the Om Dalvi Memorial Trust and the organising secretary Umesh Dalvi said this is the seventh consecutive year the tournament is being held in the city.

The ATF Asian Under-14 Series Tennis Tournament is a part of the Asian Junior series introduced by the Asian Tennis Federation.

Among the top Indian sub-juniors playing at the event include Parikshit Somani,Kabir Manral,Piyush Salekar,Kyle Cummings,Vamsikrishna Devsani,Raunit Rana,Prasanna Bagde,Frana Ugarkovic,Tanvi Bhat ,Zeel Desai,Neha Ghare,Shreya Sagade,Tejasvi Kate,Neha Mokashi and Riya Chaphekar.

Iyer said that the tournament has a back draw,which means the losers in the main draw onwards play plate matches and every player gets points according to his performance. The winner of the event will get 300 ATF points while the runner up will get 200 points. Players from the third to the 31st position will be awarded points.

The main matches will start from Monday,while the singles finals will be played on May 4. ITF white badge official Paulraj Sarvanan of Chennai has been appointed the ATF supervisor of the event.
