Officers and sailors of INS Tanaji visit Sinhagad Fort

A team of officers and sailors of INS Tanaji headed by the commanding officer Commodore Sanjay Bhutani visited Sinhagad Fort

A team of officers and sailors of INS Tanaji headed by the commanding officer Commodore Sanjay Bhutani visited Sinhagad Fort on Saturday to pay tribute to the Maratha hero — Tanaji Malusare at his bastion — after whom the naval establishment at Mankhurd,Mumbai is named.

Tanaji was a warrior and military leader in the army of Shivaji,is famously known for the battle of Sinhagad in 1670 and is also known as the Sinha (Lion).

Tanaji lost his life in the battle to recapture the Kondana fort and later Shivaji renamed the fort from Kondana to Sinhagad in his honour. Christening the unit Tanaji is a great honour for the unit.

INS Tanaji commissioned on 10th July by Admiral Nirmal Verma,PVSM,AVSM,ADC,Chief of Naval Staff.

The unit is the Base depot ship at Mankhurd station comprising the bureau of sailors,Naval Armament Depot (Trombay),Weapon Equipment Depot and Store houses of material organisation. The unit comes under Western Naval Command. Bureau of sailors which looks after all issues pertaining to sailors from induction to retirement will be duly supported by INS Tanaji.
