After a tiff over finalising the location for hosting wrestling event in the city, the elected representatives in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday entered into a new tussle over hosting kabbadi competition. Even as the ruling NCP with support from the Congress managed to finalise a location of its choice on Taljai hill, the BJP and the MNS corporators staged a walk out from the sports committee meeting.

To promote sports in the city, the civic body had started organising sports competition in the city every year for which budgetary allocation is set aside. However, the initiative has always been in controversy with the political parties indulging in slugfest over hosting the events in the areas of their choice.

BJP corporator Shrickant Jagtap demanded the event be organised on Sinhagad Road while NCP corporator Subhash Jagtap wanted it at Taljai hill. “A decision was taken to organise the event at Taljai hill after a majority vote in the meeting,” said Anil Tingre,Chairperson,Sports Committee.

PMC representatives had earlier indulged in a similar tussle over organising the wrestling event. While one faction of NCP had demanded the event be hosted at Warje, the other faction pushed for Vadgaonsheri. The Congress and the MNS had demanded that the event be held at Mangalwar Peth. The event was finally organised at Mangalwar Peth.
