A day after it was revealed that political leaders in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) took along family members as representatives of NGOs with a civic body delegation to visit Suseong-gu city in South Korea,NCP leader Subhash Jagtap said he did not think there was anything wrong in taking the family members as they were associated with some or the other social organisations. Besides, they had paid for their own travel.
The PMC delegation led by Mayor Vaishali Bankar visited Suseong-gu city to sign an MoU for a friendly exchange between the two cities. The other elected representatives of the delegation included NCP leaders Subhash Jagtap,Chetan Tupe,Baburao Chandere,MNS leader Kishore Shinde,Shiv Sena leader Ashok Harnaval,RPI leader Siddarth Dhende and civic officer Srinivas Kandul.
However, family members of the corporators were part of the delegation as NGO representatives. They included family members of the mayor, son Rushid, daughter Rutuja and husband Sunil Bankar. Similarly,Shirnivas Jagtap, son of NCP leader Subhash Jagtap and Sarla Chandere, wife of Baburao Chandere, were in the delegation.
The mayor was not available for comment on how her family was part of the official delegation while Bankar refused to give any clarification.
Jagtap said,My son is associated with a social organisation and there was nothing wrong in his coming with us as NGO representative. The entire stay was managed by elected representatives of Suseong-gu city,he reiterated. The travel was done using our own money.
When asked whether the NGOs were asked to be part of the PMC delegation,Jagtap said,We would have definitely included them in the delegation had they approached us on their own.
