No-parking signs on city roads will change in colour from white, which makes them difficult to spot,to a more visible yellow.
The city traffic police department has made the suggestion to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and civic officials said they would coordinate with the police.
Police inspector Vijay Palsule said,According to Indian Road Congress norms,no-parking signs all over should be painted in yellow. But,currently on several roads in the city they are painted in white.
In addition to painting the no-parking signs on roads in yellow,we have also suggested that the PMC paint the footpath walls near roads in yellow.
This is because road paint fades quickly due to constant vehicular movement.
Prashant Inamdar,Convenor,Pedestrians First said,For years,we have been suggesting to the authorities to paint no-parking signs yellow. Some ward officers have taken the initiative and painted signs in their wards yellow, but it should be done all over city.
DCP (traffic) Manoj Patil said,Many motorists have no idea where the 100 metre length of parking as mentioned at a no-parking zone ends. They dont know parking is not allowed at junctions. When they park their vehicles at such a junction, the vehicles get towed away by the traffic police.
The police said 60 per cent motorists park deliberately at no-parking signs and later claim they are innocent.
