Bajaj Auto and Kawasaki Ninja on Wednesday launched the Kawasaki Ninja 650R,the fourth in the series of pro-biking motorcycles launched by the former. The Ninja 650R follows Ninja 250R,which was launched in October 2009.
Rajiv Bajaj, managing director,Bajaj Auto said they conceived the Bajaj Pro Biking motorcycles six years ago to provide a good biking experience to premium bike riders. With the Pulsar 220,Avenger 220 and Ninja 250R already in the market,we have now brought the Ninja 650R to enhance the biking experience of our customers
The four-stroke,liquid-cooled,parallel twin cylinder-engine bike is priced aggressively at an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.57 lakh. Yoshiro Segawa, managing director (designate),India Kawasaki Motors, said,The expectations of our customers have increased ever since the launch of the 250R. The Ninja line has completed 27 years worldwide and we wish to bring the same experience to India too. The bike manufactured in our plant in Thailand will be brought to India as a CKD (completely knocked down) unit and then reassembled here. We will be bringing in more bikes in the future. The Ninja Line was launched in 1984,which was also incidentally when the Kawasaki-Bajaj collaboration was formed. On the Kawasaki-Bajaj joint venture,he said,We are looking to strengthen our presence overseas. Currently, our Bajaj Kawasaki partnership is the market leader in two-wheelers in the Philippines. In fact,in any new market if either we or they have a presence, the other will make use of the infrastructure available to expand there.
On targets,he said,We are looking at higher numbers than the Ninja 250R,which sold 1,500 units since its launch. Of them,1,000 were sold last year.
