Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Shivajinagar have alleged that Congress candidate from Shivajinagar Vinayak Nimhans supporters including his son Sunny had threatened them, asking them not to carry out any campaign in the constituency. Based on the complaints filed by three BJP workers campaigning for BJP candidate Vikas Mathkari, the police have also registered non-cognisable offence in this connection.
Vikas Mathkari,Shiv Sena city unit chief Nana Wadekar, corporator Shyam Deshpande told this to reporters on Tuesday. Mathkari said,Over the last three days in three separate incidents,Nimhan supporters threatened our workers asking them to stop campaigning for me. Nimhan is now indulging in such undemocratic things, because he knows that he is going to lose election this time. Since he cannot win through democratic methods,he has started resorting to such mean things,
As per the complaints,in one of the cases one Sachin Ganjave alleged that Nimhans son Sunny threatened him of dire consequences if he continued to campaign for Mathkari. Similarly, one campaigner Omkar Kadam was also threatened in a similar way.
Wadekar said,If Nimhans men do not stop these activities,Shiv Sena would give them a fitting retort in a typical Sena way. He added that this was happening as Nimhan knew that he was not able to win the election. Denying the allegations,Nimahan his opponents were frustrated and making politically motivated charges. “These are attempts to tarnish my image,” he added.
