NCRA graphic novel on Venus transit

National Centre for Radio Astrophysics has come out with a graphic novel chronicling the history and the science associated with the transit of Venus,days ahead of the phenomenon.

National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) has come out with a graphic novel chronicling the history and the science associated with the transit of Venus,days ahead of the phenomenon.

The work has been translated into more than 10 Indian and foreign languages,including Marathi. Venus transit (Venus coming exactly between Sun and Earth) on June 6 will be visible in India from sunrise till 10.30 am. Venus will be visible as a black dot,crossing the sun. The next transit will occur only after 105 years.

“There is a national campaign to get as many people as possible to see this rare celestial event. In order to spread awareness and mobilize interest,NCRA is publishing a graphic novel out the history and the science associated with the transit of the Venus. It is available in Marathi,Hindi,Tamil,Gujarati,Bengali,Kannada,Telugu as well as French,Spanish and Italian,” said a press release from NCRA.

“The PDF files of these 12-page books have been made. About 3,000 English and Marathi copies have been printed and distributed so far. We encourage everyone to download the book,distribute it widely and print and photocopy it as well from the official NCRA website,” Niruj Mohan Ramanujam,visiting scientist,NCRA,said.

As a prelude to the transit,NCRA,along with Aksharadhara,is releasing the Marathi version of the graphic novel at 6:30 pm on Friday,at Akshardhara Book Gallery,Sanas Plaza,Bajirao Road.
