The elevated Pune Metro rail plan received a blow on Friday with the NCP insisting on an underground rail transport network. The elevated metro plan has been approved by the state government in principle. On Monday,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan had announced that his government was working on a financial package for the project and had approved it in principle. NCP city president Vandana Chavan on Friday said they wanted an underground metro project. This is what the party position is. Ajit Pawar has accepted this view. The NCP city chief said Pawar has clearly spelt out that metro should be underground to help solve Punes traffic problems. Asked why the NCP had changed its stand,Mayor Mohansingh Rajpal said,The technology has changed, thats why they have changed their stand. If anybody had given us proper information then,we would have considered it, he said.
