NCP corporators in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are not in favour of BDP reservation in 23 merged villages even as senior party leaders want reservation to be maintained by state government while approving the development plan for the recently included area in the civic jurisdiction.
The area has dominance of the NCP as most of the party corporators are from the 23 merged villages.
They have been opposing the BDP reservation in their area and have now taken up the issue with party chief Sharad Pawar.
In a letter to Pawar,48 NCP corporators have urged the party chief to address the issue with immediate effect.
The party will suffer adverse impact in the forthcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections if nothing is done to remove the BDP reservation, they said.
There is no logic in the way BDP reservation has been kept in DP. Many buildings have come up in the area under BDP and it would be hard for the civic body to vacate them, said NCP corporator Vikas Dangat. He said NCP being the ruling party should take a stand in favour of the poor and ensure that they are not made homeless.
Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena which was once is support of retaining green cover of the 23 merged villages by protecting the hills is now supporting those protesting against BDP.
The party has undertaken a drive to ensure that land owners in the 23 merged villages get appropriate dues for their land instead of the 8 per cent proposed by the state government, said a Sena corporator.
