Special public prosecutor Harshad Nimbalkar on Friday opposed the bail plea of Mahesh Thakur,an accused in the Nayana Pujari gang-rape and murder case. Thakur, through his lawyer B A Aloor had applied for bail in October last year.
Opposing the bail plea,Nimbalkar said that one of the accused Yogesh Ashok Raut has already fled from the custody of jail authorities in September last year and if Thakur is granted bail,he too will abscond and will not be available for trial.
Nimbalkar also stated the possibility of Thakur influencing the witnesses. The approver in the case Rajesh Choudhary has described Thakurs role in the offence. Also,Nayana Pujaris blood stains were found on Thakurs trousers, which indicates his involvement in her murder, Nimbalkar told the court.
He added that Thakurs first bail application was rejected by the same court in June this year and his second application mentions no change in circumstances. His application to discharge from the offence was also rejected by the Bombay High Court. The court will hear the arguments on bail plea on January 27 and pass an order.
