Pune-based National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, will celebrate this year’s International Yoga Day (June 21) at Nisarg Gram, its new 25-acre campus at Yewalewadi.

NIN, that was set up as All India Nature Cure Foundation under Gandhi’s leadership in 1945, has a unique Gandhian heritage. Located at a distance of 15 kms from NIN’s present premises at Bapu Bhavan, its new campus is set for an official launch in September this year. “A naturopathy college will be located at the campus – the first in Maharashtra and permissions are awaited from Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for starting PG courses,” says Dr Satya Lakshmi, Director, NIN.

The new campus of NIN will be called `Nisarg Gram’ after Mahatma Gandhis’ Nature Cure campaign of 1946 at the `Nisarg Upchar’ Ashram in Uruli Kanchan village near Pune. It will house a 250-bed hospital with a maternity ward and OT facility. It will also have a large yoga hall including the Gandhi memorial. Apart from staff quarters, herbal garden, open amphitheater and boys and girls’ hostel, the green building project will also run on solar power.

“We could not shift to our new location due to the Covid pandemic. But plans are afoot for a formal inauguration this September,” the director said. Bachelors’ and masters’ courses in naturopathy and allied disciplines will be the focal programmes at Nisarg Gram. It will also provide an array of general electives, skill enhancement courses and ability enhancement courses to choose from.

“We are geared up to celebrate this annual celebration of physical and mental well-being on the International Yoga Day. The event provides an opportunity to highlight the wide-ranging benefits of yoga, which include stress reduction, improved flexibility, increased mindfulness and enhanced physical strength with a deeper connection with oneself,” Dr Lakshmi added.

This year, under the theme Yoga for ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2023 endeavours to connect with a larger global community. International Day of Yoga 2023 will ALSO focus on taking yoga to each and every village in India.
