Even as the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducts rounds of narco analysis, brain mapping, polygraph and psycho analysis test on six persons at a Mumbai lab,no one has yet been arrested for the murder of 21-year-old trainee software engineer Darshana Devidas Tongare at Bavdhan in July 2010.

A resident of Suvarna Park Society in Bavdhan Khurd,Darshana was stabbed sometime after she was dropped near her home by her friend Abhijit Namdeo Taru (22),also a software engineer living in Bavdhan,on July 30,2010. An offence of murder was lodged with Hinjewadi police station. The Pune police has not been able to crack the case so far.

Meanwhile, following a writ petition by Darshana’s brother Ketan Dongare,Bombay High Court passed an order in December 2012,transferring the case from Hinjewadi police station to the state CID.

Pune CID Superintendent Sadanand Wayse Patil, who is investigating the case, said: “We are conducting narco analysis, brain mapping, polygraph and psycho analysis tests of six persons in the case. The tests are being conducted in Mumbai. We cannot share any more details regarding the case.”

Sources, however, said these six persons include one of her friends, some of her relatives and two auto-rickshaw drivers.

According to preliminary police report,on July 30 Darshana had gone out for dinner with Abhijit. He dropped her near Maratha Mandir Hall, close to her home at Bavdhan around 9 p.m.. Sometime after that, she was stabbed on the chest. Darshana collapsed on the road and lay there in a pool of blood. But she did manage to call Abhijit on her cellphone. She also called out to one Nirajan Badde,an engineer, who was passing by,asking him to help. Badde tried to give the murderer a chase. But the assailant managed to flee under cover of darkness.

Meanwhile,Abhijit rushed back to the spot and admitted her to a local hospital. As the nature of wounds was serious, she had to be shifted to another private hospital. But there too,the doctors failed to save her.

The Hinjewadi police and the Crime Branch initiated an investigation. Police questioned construction labourers working at 16 sites near the crime scene. They recorded statements of several others, including auto drivers, shop owners, bus drivers,Darshana’s friends, colleagues, neighbours and family members. They questioned several history-sheeters too,but got no leads.

Darshana joined IBM as a trainee software engineer just a month before she was murdered. She is survived by her parents and brother Ketan. Her father Dr D V Tongare was an associate professor of chemistry with the NDA.
