THE ECONOMIC Offences Wing (EOW) of the Pune City police, which is investigating alleged graft and irregularities in the Mundhwa land deal, has seized the original sale deed between Parth Pawar’s partner in Amadea Enterprises LLP, Digvijay Patil and Sheetal Tejwani, and the original documents of the power of attorney (PoA) that Tejwani held for 272 watandars of Mahar watan land. Meanwhile, the police have started the process to freeze the bank accounts of Tejwani as part of the investigation into the case.

The Pune land deal has been embroiled in a controversy as the 40-acre land in Mundhwa, that fell under the category of Mahar Watan land and was leased to the Botanical Survey of India, was sold to Amadea Enterprises LLP — in which NCP president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s son Parth is a partner — without the mandatory approval of the state government. Tejwani was arrested by EOW on December 3 and she is currently in the police custody till December 11.

After Tejwani’s arrest on December 3, Pune police told the court they are probing whether Tejwani accepted Rs 300 crore of the deal and in what way. Police also told the court that the original 272 watandars — holders of Mahar watan land — had not received any money from the transaction of the controversial deal. Police said in spite of the land being in the possession of the government, Tejwani tried to show that it was still a Mahar watan and had then executed the sale of the land. Police also said the sale deed mentions the ready reckoner value of the land is Rs 300 crore. However, it is likely the market value of the land is four to five times more.

Pune police have also said that on December 1 they questioned Digvijay Patil, partner of Parth in Amadea Enterprises LLP. An officer who is part of the probe told The Indian Express on Monday Patil will be questioned again soon as part of the probe into the case.

Suspended sub-registrar remanded in police custody

Suspended sub-registrar Ravindra Taru (58), who was arrested by the Pimpri Chinchwad police on Sunday in connection with the irregularities and graft in the land deal in Mundhwa, was on Monday remanded in police custody of eight days. Taru had registered the sale deed in May this year. Pimpri Chinchwad police said they have applied to court for custody of Tejwani, who is currently in custody of Pune City police.
