Mumbai Republicans rallied from a goal down to beat Super XI in the quarter-finals of the 31st edition of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial hockey tournament.
In the quarter-final encounter played at Major Dhyan Chand hockey stadium,Prashant Bhokare gave Super XI the lead,scoring in the 21st minute. However,the Republicans fought back bravely and scored through Nitin Kumar in the 29th and 46th minute to take the lead. Naveen Kheretkar added a third goal in the 48th minute to further strengthen the scoreline and give the Republicans a 3-1 victory.
In another quarter-final match,SRPF, Pune recorded a 2-1 victory over Kolhapur District Hockey Association (KDHA). Milind Malai gave SRPF the lead in the second minute but Vikas Kore restored parity for KDHA in the 33rd minute. Sachin Sawant struck a winning goal for SRPF in the 38th minute as he expertly steered home a Vikas Karande pass.
Pune City Police will take on Indian Bank Chennai and Railway Boys Club Pune will face Union Bank in the other quarter-finals on Friday.
