As heavy rains lashed the city, a Pune city police team rescued a motorcyclist from the embankment of the Mula Mutha river across the bridge on Kharadi-Keshav Nagar road on Thursday evening.
Police identified the motorcyclist as Nawaz Khurshid Kotwal (38), a resident of Chandan Nagar. According to the police, an alert was issued by the authorities after water was released into the river from Khadakwasla dam following heavy rains on Tuesday.
So a team of Kharadi police station, led by assistant police inspector Siddhanath Khandekar, was closing the bridge on the embankment on the Mula-Mutha river. Cops spotted a motorcyclist on the embankment and sought help from the Pune Fire Brigade. But as the water level was rising continuously, the cops entered the river and rescued the motorcyclist using a rope and forming a humanchain.
The bridge was then closed for vehicles with barricades. Meanwhile, a woman was injured by a falling tree near Nishigandh building in Panchavati, Pashan, on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Pune Fire Brigade, due to heavy rain, a big tree fell on a two-wheeler and a four-wheeler near Nishigandh building. The 22-year-old woman identified as Kajal, a student of C-DAC in Panchavati, was injured.
