The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee on Thursday has rejected the civic administrations proposal to withdraw the exemption of octroi on domestic goods.
The proposal was unanimously passed by the committee as no one wanted to pass the burden on to the citizens, said standing committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar.
The administration had sought the withdrawal of octroi exemption on essential commodities that were given in the previous financial year. It further asked for a hike in octroi charges on petroleum products, including LPG. He said the civic administration would table the annual budget proposal for 2012-13 on Friday which would be forwarded to the general body by the new committee.
Earlier, there was confusion over the tabling of budget as the new body was elected for Pune Municipal Corporation, but would take charge only on March 15. The budget has to be approved by the standing committee and the general body by March 31.
