With the rising mosquito menace in the city, residents of Bopodi took out a protest march at the Aundh Ward office to agitate against civic administration failure to get rid of the water hyacinth growth in the Mula and Pavna river.
The residents have been complaining that the plant has covered the entire Mula river, and this is leading to breeding of mosquitoes in the region. The representatives of housing societies and other localities in Bopodi collected some hyacinth and gifted it to the civic staff in Aundh Ward office.
Incidentally, the protest was led by leaders of ruling NCP and Congress in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). “We had no other option but to protest as it was becoming difficult for residents to cope with the mosquito problem. Many residents have been falling ill due to mosquito-borne diseases,” said former corporator and city NCP executive president Shrickant Patil.
