Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sadhu Vaswani College of Nursing on Sunday. He was in the city to attend several events lined up for him at various institutes.
Speaking at the event,Modi paid tribute to Sadhu Vaswani and praised Dada JP Vaswanis vision of service.
It has been 23 years since I met Dada Vaswani. I had the pleasure of his company at a world religions conference in the US, he said.
Talking about the Indian culture and its effects,Modi said,Live and let live is a western motto. But in India,we say live,let live,and help people live. Tolerance is touted as a great quality in the west. Here we go one step further,we tolerate as well as accept.
He also touched upon the subject of women empowerment and educating the girl child.
When I first took up the office of Gujarat CM,we saw girls from Class 3 or 4 dropping out of school at an alarming rate. After a detailed study,I found out the reason behind girls dropping out was no separate toilets for them in schools. We fixed the problem,and now things are totally different, he said.
He added,If I had been thinking like a chief minister and had let the power go to my head,I would not have been able to look into these things minutely.
Modi said Gujarat conducts regular check-up camps for animals.
We have eradicated over a hundred diseases and illnesses from animals in Gujarat, he said.
On compassion for the jeev,Modi said Gujarat has cataract operation facility for cattle as well.
