A strong competition is likely to be seen between BJP and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in this panel.
The panel has been formed by merging three electoral wards currently represented by Vijay Maratkar of Shiv Sena,Ravindra Dhangekar of MNS and Vidya Bhokare of Congress.
It is yet to be known whether BJP or Shiv Sena would be contesting from civic elections from this panel. With Maratkar as sitting corporator,Shiv Sena may be claiming seat for this panel. However, for years, the area comprised in this panel is known to be BJP strong hold.
BJP MLA Girish Bapat has a strong influence here. During the state assembly elections,Bapat defeated had Dhangekar of MNS and Rohit Tilak of Congress from this area, but not by a large margin. With reservations for open category and OBC women,Dhangekar is likely to contest civic election from this panel. Congress and NCP would be contesting separately.
Party leaders say that BJP has an upper hand in this panel, but a tough fight is expected between BJP and MNS. Vijay Maral, president of Ajantha Mitra Mandal, said,”Patches in which sitting corporators have their vote banks and not included in this panel. So BJP remains the strongest party here.”
Meanwhile, for OBC women category, local leaders of all parties like former corporator Bharat Nijampurkar of BJP would be fielding their wives for contesting elections.
