18-year-old lures minor girl on pretext of dropping her at Pune school, rapes her at secluded location; arrested

An 18-year-old Class 12 student was arrested on Monday for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Pune last week, the police said, adding that they had met two months ago.

Officers said the accused picked up the girl on Thursday on the pretext of dropping her at school before committing the sexual assault at a secluded location. He has been charged for raping a person under 16 years of age and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

The inspector in charge of the police station where the case was registered said the girl is a student of Class 9 at a school in Pune. “The incident came to light after the girl opened up to her mother about it on Sunday, after which the girl’s mother approached the police station,” the officer said.
