Messenger of peace

He might have aged and become a nonagenarian on paper, but a conversation with the ever smiling and soft spoken Dada JP Vaswani,(or Dada as he is fondly known) can establish the fact in the heart of the hardest cynic that he is a person who is very much young at heart.

He might have aged and become a nonagenarian on paper, but a conversation with the ever smiling and soft spoken Dada JP Vaswani,(or Dada as he is fondly known) can establish the fact in the heart of the hardest cynic that he is a person who is very much young at heart.

Speaking about his sbirthday on August 2,”Forget feeling 91,I don’t even feel 19. In fact I feel like I am nine plus one,ten years old,” he says with his trademark 70 mm smile. Adding further he says,”People often ask me the reason behind my innate happiness and peaceful demeanour and always keep complimenting me on the fact that I smile a lot,but I really do not think of it as a great big deal. I have never questioned anything that has happened in my life ever. In fact I have always accepted it as the will of some great cosmic plan that has been written for me. As a result of this I don’t end up arguing with my inner self,as most people tend to do. That’s why I find my inner peace easily. And I think it’s the easiest way to attain inner happiness.”

Known for his exuberant speaking style,he says,”We as a nation today are passing through difficult times. In the quest for a materialistic lifestyle we have actually lost the essence of living life truly to the fullest. That’s a reason why in spite of having money we are not happy. What we as a nation truly need now are leaders-men and women of high character who will not crumble or wilt under power or position but use them both to help others come up in life. As our 63rd independence approaches we as a nation still haven’t found total freedom. We are far from achieving freedom from evils like casteism, regionalism, and corruption. We need to fight our way out against these ills, and hope that things will change for the best.”

Speaking on the topic of education Dada Vaswani adds,”Education in its true sense is the ability to differentiate between the right and the wrong, and to not divide people on basic of caste creed gender religion or any other means. Sadly today these seeds of indifference are sown right from the time little children go to school. It’s appalling and saddening because we as parents are corrupting an entire new generation’s thought process and making them rigid and selfish. Tolerance and a rational attitude towards developing the nation, whilst being at peace with our own selves will definitely help us get right back up where we were.”

For Dada Vaswani, compassion and justice are two sides of a coin and the fine line between them has to be tread carefully,he says,”I do believe that compassion and forgiveness are a quality that only the strong minded possess but it cannot be confused with justice. Like in the case of a terrorist who has killed people it is more sensible to let justice take its own course because sometimes it is important to curb crimes in this manner. However helping educate a criminal will go a long way in actually eradicating crimes in its true sense.”

On his message to the people of the nation he says,”I hope people stop misusing religion for the purpose of dividing this nation. As far as India s concerned the various religions here were meant to be a binding factor and not one that divides the nation and I hope that everyone-the leaders, and the people use it to unify and unite the nation to build a better India.”

One of his long time admirers, actor Aamir Khan says,”Dada Vaswani is one of the few people whose perpetual smile has left a deep impression on me. Whenever I think of his smile it makes me feel peaceful.”
