From the time the show Marathi Taraka debuted in 2007,it has had around 70 shows not just in the country but also overseas. The dance show gained popularity as it featured 12 Marathi female actors performing on the same stage. Now,having performed for the audience from various walks of life and tasting huge success, the troupe is moving to another level.
All of us have high regard for the Army soldiers, who stay away from their home and family solely for their love for the nation. So last month,we approached the commander of the an Army unit posted in Baramulla (J&K) with our proposal and he agreed, says Mahesh Tilekar, who has conceptualised, directed and produced the show. The group will perform at Baramulla and Uri,located 18 kms from the Line of Control,on October 15.
The two-hour long performance will feature 12 renowned female actors from the Marathi film industry namely Amruta Khanvilkar,Bhargavi Chirmule,Megha Ghatage,Smita Tambe,Smita Shivale,Neha Pendse,Siya Patil,Puja Sawant and so on.
The performance will be a confluence of lavani, folk, classical and western dance on songs from various Hindi and Marathi films. We have also included some songs from Dada Kondkes films, said Tilekar. The performance has been choreographed by Omkar Shinde, who was last seen in television shows like Dance India Dance and Nach Baliye.
In 2008,the show was staged at the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the then President Pratibha Patil and other dignitaries. Last month, the troupe performed in London. After their show in J&K,they will be performing in Sri Lanka and Dubai.
Tilekar said that since none of the actors, who are part of the dance show, have witnessed the Army life from close quarters, the performers are very excited to interact with the the Army personnels. He said while the artistes have not charged a fee for their performance, the troupes travel expenses have been sponsored by Balaji Rao of Venkys Group.
