A 29-year-old man seriously injured in a suspected gang war in the Nana Peth area of Pune died while undergoing treatment at a hospital on Wednesday, said the police
The deceased, Nikhil Akhade, was a resident of Ambegaon Pathar in Dhankawadi. The Samarth police station registered a murder case based on the complaint of his friend Aniket Dudhbhate.
A team from the Samarth police station, led by senior inspector Suresh Shinde and sub-inspector Sunil Randive, arrested six men, including dreaded gangster Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar, 67, of Nana Peth. They also detained three minor boys involved in the crime.
The Andekar gang allegedly intercepted Akhade and Dudhbhate in the Nana Peth area on September 2 and attacked them with sharp weapons. Akhade and Dudhbhate were injured and admitted to a hospital.
The police suspect the attack was a fallout of the ongoing rivalry between the Andekar and Suraj Thombre gangs. Akhade was a friend of Somnath Gaikwad, associated with Thombre.
