Man in inebriated condition ransacks police station,attempts suicide

A man ransacked Chinchwad police station under the influence of alcohol and allegedly attempted suicide when the police took him into custody,on Friday late evening.

A man ransacked Chinchwad police station under the influence of alcohol and allegedly attempted suicide when the police took him into custody,on Friday late evening.

Police said Soljar Madhukar Gaikwad (30) of Mohan Nagar in Chinchwad got injured in a brawl with some person in Nigdi and went to Chinchwad police station for lodging complaint. Cops asked him to wait for sometime as the process of lodging complaint of another person was going on.

But Gaikwad,who had consumed alcohol,lost his temper and allegedly broke the window panes and door glass at the police station and attempted suicide by attacking his head and hands with the window glass pieces.

The cops managed to nab him and arrested under Section 309 (attempted suicide) of the Indian Penal Code. Police said Gaikwad damaged property worth Rs 20,000 at the police station before he was arrested. Gaikwad was reported to be a history sheeter. He has a few cases of burglary and robbery against his name and was also externed from the city limits during the Ganesh festival.
