Appreciating the commendable work done by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) during the Malin operation, District Collector Saurabh Rao has requested the governor’s office that they be given special recognition. Rao requested the governor to felicitate the team on August 15.
‘Normally there is no such felicitation on August 15. However, in the present circumstances where the district administration was helped out by the NDRF to carry out the operations at Malin for a week, we have requested that a special recognition be bestowed on them along with some amount being donated to their employee welfare fund,’’ said Rao on Tuesday.
Recounting the seven days of operations, Rao said that the team’s hands-on was crucial to the smoothness and success of the operation. “We could provide them with all the machinery and the manpower for all other related work and they were able to execute the work according to the directions. The team of 360 persons were dedicated to the duty and it’s because of their support that things could be operated smoothly,” added Rao.
For the Malin victims, the district administration has been given the tribal department’s in-principle approval for Rs 3.62 crore for temporary shelters, for acquiring land as well as to construct permanent shelters and the memorial.
When asked about the permanent shelters, the collector said that the villagers have been given ten days’ time to give them a location so that the permanent shelters can be constructed after GSI review.
He said that reports which had been demanded from the agriculture department and forest department and the EGS are yet awaited.
