Six people were rescued after a fire erupted following a cooking gas cylinder blast at a restaurant in Satavwadi area in Hadapsar in the early hours Sunday, officials said. No casualties or injuries were reported in the accident, the officials added. However, the restaurant suffered heavy property damages in the blaze.

Officials said that at around 3.12 am on Sunday, a blaze was reported in the restaurant, named Bhannat Biryani, located on the ground floor of a building. After receiving information, two tenders from Kale Borate Nagar and Hadapsar fire stations were deployed. By the time fire tenders reached the spot, local residents had started making attempts to control the fire.

Firefighting teams found that six people — three men and three women– were stranded in apartments above the restaurant. They were soon rescued, even as fire was brought under control.

The teams also safely recovered three filled gas cylinders from the restaurant. One cylinder which had exploded was found in the kitchen, officials said.
