16 pilgrims injured in Expressway mishap

As many as 16 pilgrims were injured when a private minibus rammed into the road divider near Ozarde on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway Saturday.

According to police, a group from Thane was going to Jejuri temple in Pune district in a minibus of a travel company.

The driver of the bus lost control near Ozarde, and the minibus collided with the road divider at 4 am on Saturday, police said.

The impact was so severe that 16 pilgrims were injured. A team of highway police and ‘Devdoot’ rescue squad of the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation rushed to the spot. They removed the injured persons trapped inside the minibus, police said.

Police said that victims — identified as Anant Rudre, Vaishali Kolte, Ashok Dangat, Mamta Rudre, Reshma Kare and Urmila Gogawale, among others — sustained severe injuries and were being treated in the ICU of a hospital.
