Mahajan new PCB v-p,Brig Jaswal sworn in as president

Arti Mahajan has been elected as the Vice-President of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB).

Arti Mahajan has been elected as the Vice-President of the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB). Her induction as vice-president comes after the post fell vacant due to Shailendra Bidkar’s resignation on August 17. Prior to that,Brigadier M S Jaswal,Deputy General Officer Commanding (Dy GOC) of the Pune Sub-Area,was sworn in as the president of the PCB.

Speaking on the occasion,Brigadier Jaswal said,“I am honoured to take over as the president of one of the oldest cantonments in the country. I will strive towards making PCB a model cantonment board in the country.”

Prasad Kedari had proposed the name of Mahajan for the post of the vice-president that as seconded by Sangeeta Pawar,board member. Mahajan,the seventh Congress vice-president,will also be the chairperson of the civil area committee. Anju Mathurawala has been appointed the chairman of education and school committee,while finance will be held by Kedari and environment by Manzur Nazir Shaikh. Santosh Kavde became the member of the health committee.

In her speech,Mahajan said issues of mutation of bungalows and water woes needed to be addressed. Commenting on the use of helmets being made compulsory within the cantonment area from September 1,Mahajan said,“I urge them (the Local Military Authority) to rethink on the helmet imposition rule.” Brigadier Jaswal had earlier said,“The Army is resolute that the helmet compulsion is for public safety and in cognizance with the Supreme Court directives.”
