Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Vasant More has alleged that even though the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had purchased diamond cutting machines three years back, these machines, which cost the civic body Rs 9.50 lakh, had been lying unused.

He alleged that just when he started probing into the matter, the PMC issued tender inviting trainers to operate the machine. More said,”With a view to give employment to the needy women under the Urban Community Development (UCD),the civic body purchased these machines, costing Rs 9.50 lakh. However,in order to operate the machine, one needs to undergo some training. Since, such an instructor was never appointed in the last three years, the machine kept lying unused,so much so that the plastic covers on these machines were even lying covered with plastic wrappers,” he said. Since these two machines are kept at a hall, the places are also lying unutilised.

“These machines are a waste of public money. But when I started probing into the matter, the civic body hurriedly issued tender calling applications from the trainers of these machines.”
