Taking a cue from the latest craze in foodieville – barbeque on the table – a brand new restaurant in Kothrud, has begun catering to Pune’s discerning clientele with a spread of cuisine from across Asia. Aptly named Asian Mélange, this specialty restaurant is housed on three floors and each of them has a distinct ambience to it.

As Sundip Sawant, general manager explains,“The ground floor is meant for family, friends and other guests, who can dine here in an air conditioned environment. The second floor houses a more private dining area where you can have the choicest mocktails on offer, while the terrace is meant for open-air dining under the stars with barbeque on the table being an added attraction.”

The restaurant is currently offering combo meal packages starting at as little as Rs 150. “As part of the combo meals, which we are offering between 11 am and 3 pm,there’s a choice of soup,a starter,a rice dish and dessert. Other than this,of course, guests can sample the range of delicacies which are a part of the Barbeque and Rolls Festival, which will be on till May 25,” says Sawant.

The range of barbeque dishes and rolls being dished up at the Asian Mélange is fairly elaborate. For the vegetarians, there’s Lucknowi Tukda Kebab (Rs 130) and Mushroom Ki Nazakat (Rs 150). While non-vegetarians can try out Murg Gul-e-Bakhouli (Rs 195),Murg Miramshah (Rs 175),Shahi Samundar Khazana (Rs 550) and Tiger Prawns Kalimiri Tikka (Rs 450) in the barbeque spread.

There’s a variety of rolls to choose from too, including Noorani Seekh Roll (Rs 130),Chicken Sukha Roll (Rs 175),Gosht Kakori Roll (Rs 220) and Fish Banjara Roll (Rs 230).

In addition, there’s the regular fare in the main course, such as Sabzi Makhani (Rs 110),Baghdadi Murg Handi (half: Rs 180) and Ghost Nawabi Handi (full: Rs 450). Before getting down to having a full-fledged meal, though, you can sample the choicest mocktails and then dig into some mouthwatering desserts.

Done up in a classic, understated décor style,Asian Melange incorporates elements such as mini water bodies and diffused lighting, yet keeps the emphasis on the food. The service was prompt and the stewards efficient. In all, this specialty restaurant is value for money and ideal for family outings on balmy summer evenings.
