Luxury buses feel the heat again

Post elections, the traffic police have once again gone after the luxury buses that have been plying in the city.

Post elections, the traffic police have once again gone after the luxury buses that have been plying in the city. And after a two month break, the luxury bus owners are once again feeling the heat.

“Last week,we have booked around 40 luxury buses,” said Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Manoj Patil.

“We had stopped for some time because of the elections. Our force was employed in election duties. Last week, however,we were able to book luxury buses that have been flouting norms,” Patil said.

This drive against the buses had started in Januray when the traffic department took on the luxury bus operators in a bid to regulate their movement and reduce traffic congestion. Around102 roads were identified which were shut to heavy vehicles, including luxury bus owners.

“We are ensuring that they do not congest traffic on important roads like JM Road,F C road, near railway station, shivajinagar station,Ambedkar road,Ambedkar bhavan,” Patil said.

Luxury bus owners are however not happy. “We had a reprieve for two months, but it has begun again in the last 3-4 days. We have been transporting passengers via mini vans, but with monsoons coming over,it is a little worrying — where will our passengers wait?,” said Balasaheb Khedekar, president of the Private Bus Owners Association.
