Look into complaints of ILS students: Registrar to director, higher education

When The Indian Express visited the ILS Law College on Monday, college authorities said they have not heard anything about the directions.

Last month over 110 students of the prestigious law college had signed and sent an 8 page letter to the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court alleging institutional castesim, sexual harassment, communal targeting and abuse, caste-based discrimination and favouritism and hooliganism in the hostel. The letter had cited incidents of the past where the college authorities had not taken action against complaints by students.

The letter had cited the decision by authorities to not hold the Phule Ambedkar Memorial Lecture and other activities for the last three years. This year, students decided to invite Asim Sarode but were denied permission. The students alleged that certain demographics were favoured among the students by the faculty where other students faced hostility and indifference despite merit.

The letter said students of certain castes were consistently appointed to moot courts and other bodies which raised their chances of better academic records. The students have alleged that the college authorities have not honoured diversity in the student bodies.
