Rupali Chakankar, chairperson of the Maharashtra state commission for women, said she has filed a complaint with the Election Commission against the alleged bogus voting attempt at a polling center in ward number 34 in Pune city.
Chakankar is also a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar. Chakankar told the media that workers of her party caught hold of some people who were erasing the ink on their fingers with an unknown liquid after voting at the polling booth in Narayanrao Sanas school, in Wadgaon Dhayari area on Thursday morning.
Showing a video of the incident, Chankankar said a man holding a liquid was erasing the ink marks on the fingers of the women at the polling booth.
Chakankar claimed that both the man and the women seen in the video are not voters of the area and it is suspected that they would go to vote again after erasing the ink.
“After receiving information about the incident from party workers, I reached the spot. I called the police and election officers to look into the matter. If the women are actual voters, then what was the reason to bring liquid for erasing the ink. This appears to be suspicious. A complaint has been filed with the election commission to conduct an inquiry and stop such things,” Chakankar said.
