A meeting headed by the Govind Raj,Director National Rural Health Mission and attended by health officials from the state PC-PNDT cell,Indian Medical Association,Indian Radiological and Imaging Association and Maharashtra Medical Council among others deliberated on the issue in Mumbai on Thursday.
Dr Shiv Utture,member of MMC,said the proposed move will help check its misuse. Dr Anil Pachnekar,State IMA president,said it will help track sonography machines that are resold. Experts said there is no particular formula on how to sell the sonography machine. With newer technologies,the sonography machines need to be updated and the old ones are resold. This decision will ensure that each machine will have a number so that it can be traced,Dr Jignesh Thakker,ex-secretary of IRIA,said.
Dr Sudhakar Kokane,state nodal officer for PC-PNDT,said an official notification will be released after the minutes of the meeting are recorded. The state PC-PNDT helpline has received 542 complaints on illegal sex selection,of which action has been taken in 509 cases. Sonography machines have been sealed in 21 cases while the states website amchimulgi.com has had 566 complaints. We have sealed 15 sonography machines, said Dr Asaram Khade,state PC-PNDT consultant.
