Alleging that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is threatening traders to register under the local body tax (LBT) regime, the Pune Traders Association on Thursday threatened to launch another agitation if the civic administration did not cease to apply pressure tactics.
In a press statement,Association president Popatlal Oswal said that the association had challenged the implementation of LBT in courts and threatening traders was not right as the matter was sub judice.
Hearings on petitions are going on in the HC and the SC. It is improper for PMC to threaten via media, action against traders not registering under LBT, he said.
Oswal said the association condemned the act of the civic administration and if it did not stop it forthwith, they would have no option but to launch an agitation. It is illegal to warn of action against traders not registering under LBT, he said.
