Late monsoon: 67 villages in three Pune talukas depend on tankers

As many as 67 villages in three talukas of Pune district are dependent on tankers for water supply at present, and owing to delay in monsoon, the situation is not likely to improve any time soon.

Officials said that usually by the end of June, demand for tankers reduces with the onset of monsoon, which generally occurs around June 7. This year, however, demand has increased in June as compared with previous months of summer.

Officials with Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP)said that tankers have been deployed by authorities to supply water to 67 villages in three talukas – Ambegaon, Junnar and Khed. These tankers cumulatively make an average of 136 trips per day. Ambegaon taluka has the highest number of water tanker-dependent villages at 16, followed by Khed (13) and Junnar (10).
