Deccan ‘C’ defeated Commandos 3-1 in the tie breaker after drawing 0-0 at the end of regulation time in the quarter final of the junior division KP Jadhav Memorial tournament organised by the VOBA and being held at the Bishop’s school ground on Friday.

Friday’s opening game was the most exciting goalless draw of the tournament. The game involved sixty minutes of constant action,a missed penalty and an abundance of energy from the young set of players. Both teams matched up when it came to skill on the ball, tough tackling and passing. But the Deccan team were the calmer lot twelve yards from goal and that proved to be the difference on the day.

Commandos edged the possession for the first half with midfielder Rishi Hegde controlling the entire game. He even had a couple of shots on goal, but they were well saved by the opposition keeper. Deccan, with their robust defence, did well to block most of the attacks of the opposition strikers. Right-winger Rajsingh Nimbalkar floated in some good crosses but his teammates lacked the quality in finishing. Commandos created a lot more chances to score but failed to beat the rival keeper. The half ended 0-0.

Commandos started the second half with a bang and had a chance to take the lead in the very first minute of the half. The left-winger put in a good cross at the far post, but the striker missed the ball completely. Deccan responded well to this early attack and launched some of their own. Left-winger Sourabh Shinde made a couple of good runs down the flank and put in some dangerous crosses but the strikers failed to capitalize. Their constant pressure came good in the 50 th minute when they won a penalty. Rajsingh Nimbalkar received a delightful ball from midfield and was tripped in the box just when he was about to pull the trigger. The referee did not hesitate to point to the spot. Abhishek Tilak stepped up to the plate but skied his penalty. Following this,Commandos players took a few strikes on goal, but none that troubled the Deccan keeper. The match ended goalless and went into the tiebreaker. Sanket Khodrikar,Amey Patil and Sai Prasad scored for the winners while Satyajeet Kunjeer was the lone scorer for the losing team.
