On Saturday,the Bapu Ghar on Tadiwala Road,which houses the National Institute of Naturopathy will come alive with a performance by Margi Sathi,Professor of Koodiyattom at Kerala Kala Mandalam of Udyanavarnana (natures splendour) by Vasanta Sena taken from Bodhyanans play Bhagavadhyajukam. This will be followed by Seethayanam from Uttara Ramayana.
Koodiyattom is a comprehensive Sanskrit theatre form that has been in existence even before the tenth century AD. It has delightful nuances and hidden shades of meaning in metaphors and delicate implications,which is a hallmark of Sanskrit theatre. Based on sage Bharatas Natyasastra,Koodiyattom evolved into one of the finest art forms that has mesmerised theatre lovers the world over. IN 2004,the UNESCO declared Koodiyattom as a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity.
Sathi will be accompanied by Kalamandalam Raman Unni and Kalamandalam Saji Kumar on mizhavu,Kalamadalam Mohanan on thimila,Rangasri Dev Narayanan on edakka,Rangasri Revathi and Kalamandalam Sheeba Krishnan.
Sathi was invited by UNESCO to perform in Paris before a specially invited assembly of a thousand guests from all over the world. Art lovers in Pune are lucky to witness a performance of Seethayanam in Koodiyattom genre by Sathi,which has been enacted before appreciative audiences in the USA,France,Spain,Germany,Italy,and Switzerland.

Sathi joined Kerala Kala Mandalam at the age of eleven and was tutored by legendary Gurus of the 2000-year old Sanskrit theatre such as Mani Madrava Chakyar and Ammannur Madhava Chakyar. Apart from many performances in India and abroad,she has choreographed many pieces like Seethayanam,Rasaleela,Kanakicharitham,Swapnankanam and also scripted and published performance manuals of Sriramacharitam and Subhadra Dhananjajam.
