CM Devendra Fadnavis assured on Monday that the names of farmers affected by the Khed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) would be deleted. He said that land records would be corrected after the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) looks into the matter and takes necessary steps.
The meeting was held to address the issue in the presence of MP Raju Shetti who has been leading the agitation to give farmers their rights. The land for the SEZ, which is spread over 1,705 hectares, was acquired in 2006-07 by MIDC.
The SEZ was developed by the Khed Economic Infrastructure Private Limited (KEIPL), a joint venture between MIDC (26 per cent) and Bharat Forge (74 per cent). Shetti said that farmers who lost their land during the acquisition process are yet to receive their compensation.
Another 5,000 hectares in neighbouring villages were earmarked for acquisition for phase II and III of the project, following which the MIDC’s name was stamped on land records of farmers. The agitating farmers led by Shetti had demanded that MIDC’s name be deleted from the records.
