Two days after a couple from Pune allegedly committed suicide in the backwaters near Alappuzha, the Kerala Police handed over their bodies to relatives. Families of both the deceased are from Pimple Gurav.

The Alappuzha police said Shashank Dattaraya Shindurde (24),a computer science student, and Ganga Bharat Kate (36),a homemaker and mother of two, committed suicide by jumping into the water reservoir located around 15 km from the Alappuzha bus stand.

Inspector S Binu said,“The two had hired a houseboat on Monday and spent the night on it. On Tuesday morning, they asked the boat crew to take them to the shore. We suspect them to have jumped into the waters sometime after that. They had tied each others hands. Their bodies were fished out on Wednesday.”

He added,“We identified them based on the calls they had made from their cell phones. Investigation is on to know the nature of their relationship.”

A missing person complaint was registered by Shashank’s father with the Sangvi police but no complaint was registered about the woman.
