Yet again, Kalicharan Maharaj booked for hate speech in Pune

Maharaj delivered the speech on March 11 in which he allegedly made statements causing enmity between different sections of society. Earlier, he was booked for an alleged hate speech against Muslim community during a rally at Baramati on February 9.

The Pune police Tuesday registered yet another case against controversial religious guru Kalicharan Maharaj alias Abhijit Dhananjay Sarag, 44, for allegedly making objectionable statements during his speech in Pune in March, officials said.

The police said that an investigation is on and no arrest has been made yet in the case.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) at the Sinhagad Road police station, Maharaj delivered a speech during a function at Suncity Road on March 11 in which he allegedly made objectionable statements causing enmity between different sections of society.

The police conducted an analysis of the video recording of the speech and after verifying the legal aspects lodged an FIR under sections 188, 505 (2) (Statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

There have been multiple offences of hate speech against Kalicharan Maharaj in the past. He was earlier booked for an alleged hate speech against the Muslim community during a ‘Hindu Jangarjana Morcha’ rally at Baramati in Pune district on February 9.

A First Information Report in the case has been registered at Baramati City Police station on April 25. Also, he was arrested in connection with a hate speech case lodged at the Khadak police station in Pune city in January 2022 but was later released on bail.

A resident of Akola district of Maharashtra, Kalicharan Maharaj was also arrested by the Chhattisgarh police for allegedly making derogatory statements against Mahatma Gandhi during his speech at an event in Raipur.
