With institutions like Research and Development Establishment (Engineers) (R&DE(E)) doing a great job, deploying robots as soldiers could soon be a reality on the border, said former president APJ Abdul Kalam at the golden jubilee celebrations of R&DE(E) on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering,Kalam appreciated R&DE(E) for its achievements and contributions to strengthen the defence forces of the country in the past five decades. Setting the mission of system design-system integration-system management for the future of R&DE(E),he also proposed a roadmap for R&DE(E) as well as for the nation till year 2030,by integrating nano-,bio-,info- and eco-technologies.
He suggested that R&DE(E) should work jointly with the Corps-of Engineers to put in place a system of canals which, apart from providing water, could also be useful for flood-control and disaster-management.
The golden jubilee function symbolised the culmination of many technical events including seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibition. Among others present were Dr Prahlada,vice-chancellor,Defence Institute of Advanced Technologies and Dr S Sundaresh, chief controller R&D (ACE & SI).
