Deputy Director of Education (Pune region) Suman Shinde on Thursday said that Jnana Prabodhini Prashala comes under the purview of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act 2009,and the school has to function within the framework of the Act.
With this announcement, the validity of annual entrance examination conducted by the school for Class VI and admissions based on it for this year, have come under a cloud.
Shinde said she has received complaints from parents,a group opposing the entrance test and another supporting it.
She said more details would be sought before taking action against the school.
The school authorities, however, defended the move to hold the entrance examination, threatening legal action if they are prevented from conducting it.
Considered a prestigious school in Pune,Jnana Prabodhini Prashala held round-I of the entrance examination on March 3 and round-II for shortlisted candidates on March 31.
