Former BJP member and lawyer Ram Jethmalani Saturday appealed to law faculties in educational institutions to become vocal about judicial decisions.
“The academic world has lost its courage to speak against judicial decisions. Academicians and teachers should rise to the occasion and show moral courage to speak against judicial decisions,” he said.
Delivering a lecture at ILS Law College,Jethmalani rued that India does not have law journals in sufficient numbers unlike other developed countries. These journals,he said,are important as they carry the academic point of view about judicial decisions.
He said citizens of the country should become cleverer than politicians by getting educated about different issues.
He also said some honest judges have become ‘thorns in the flesh’ for ruling parties and should be backed by the masses.
Speaking at another event at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s New Law College,Jethmalani dwelt upon the concept of secularism. “Secularism is about making many people happy. It is nothing but the feeling of equality among all religions,” he said.
