With the first phase of the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium completed in 2011,the thing that the city has to look forward to this year is not just the completion of the stadium,but also the city finally playing host to the IPL matches and international matches after October 2012.
The stadium will feature 90 corporate boxes that will go all around the stadium and give the audience a panoramic view of the match,along with three-tier stands at the north and the south ends.
Ajay Shirke,President of the MCA,says,With the first phase completed,a major chunk of the stadium work is over. The ground the playing surface was ready in April 2011. It was only the stadium that took time for completion.
Being built by the Shapoorji Pallonji group,MCA officials say that they will be inviting Cyrus Mistry who will be heading the Tata group from 2012 onwards,for the matches once the stadium is ready.
Shirke says that Mistry has expressed interest in coming for the matches. However,it only depends on whether his schedule allows him to attend the matches, he says. Another major thing that will be completed along with the stadium is the route to the stadium by March.
The Rs 300-crore stadium is being completed in two phases. The first phase has seen completion of around 44,000 seats already. The second phase of the stadium will begin in June and will be completed by October.
