On Sunday, when Mandakini Patil,a student of Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication and her friends decided to watch the match at Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, she did not like the idea of driving all the way to the stadium in Punes traffic. So they decided to hire a cab.
Driving all the way to the stadium is troublesome, and we hardly get any parking space. So we decided to hire a cab, says Patil. The experience of renting a car,she says, was convenient as drivers are well-informed of routes and passengers dont have worry about manoeuvring in the heavy rush.
Generally,Pune-based Savaari Car Rentals gets around 25-30 IPL match-related bookings, but for the match on Sunday the firm received close to 70. Interestingly, the bookings were not only made by Pune cricket lovers but also from Nagpur,Aurangabad and Shirdi, who hired cabs to the match.
For instance,in three days,Dadar-based Simar Travels received around 35 bookings from Mumbaikars for the match in Pune. We observed that the demand for such services has been increasing every year, primarily due to parking and traffic problems, says Surjit Singh Alag of Samar Travels.
Throwing light on the rise in the trend,Gaurav Aggarwal,CEO,Savaari Car Rentals, said,Parking is a huge concern these days and during these events, where there are chances of heavy rush and chaos, people prefer to avoid the tension of driving and parking of vehicles. They hire cabs available upto a good eight hours.
Aggarwal added that IPL is always a good time for car rentals. Savaari Car Rentals has seen a tremendous increase in the demand for cabs during IPL. If they ask for luxury cabs, its a feather in the capPune is comparatively a new venue but the response from the city has been overwhelming, he says.
